Beijing DaFeng Art Gallery is honored to host one of the most influential figures of 20th Century American Art, James Rosenquist, for his first ever solo show in China - The “Speed of Light” lithograph series. “Speed of Light” will open on Saturday September 12 at 3:00pm with a reception in our 798 exhibition space. Mr. Rosenquist will specially travel to Beijing to attend the opening and introduce his work. We sincerely hope to be able to share this unique opportunity with as many of you as possible.

While the artist first gained international renown for his epic paintings of themes derived from American popular culture, in his more recent work he has turned his attention to the realm of science and metaphysics. In the body of work presented in “Speed of Light”, Mr. Rosenquist explores through his lithographs of dazzling colors and seemingly abstract forms Einstein's study of the speed of light, in which a person sitting in a vehicle traveling at such a speed looks out the window and finds the view altered from that which would be seen by a person at rest. At the same time, a person at rest observing the speeding vehicle, his view is also altered. As Rosenquist explains, “Things are crammed together, and they're foreshortened. It's a pun, really. Like the difference between the artist and the critic, how different people see different things.”

We look forward to seeing you next Saturday! Call or email if you have questions or need directions.
